5 Tips to Improve Your Heads Up Poker Play
You’ve finally made it! You’ve played Texas Hold’em for hours and hours, dodged some scary all ins, caught a couple of breaks and now you are sitting at the final table playing heads up poker. Once the joy of making the final table has subsided you will have to get down to business and stake out your opponent. Hopefully by now you have got a good read on the player, their tendencies, strengths and weaknesses. However, it may be important to know that poker players often switch modes when it comes down to heads up play. A poker players heads up play may be completely different than their regular play. Here are some tips to help you improve your heads up Texas Hold’em poker strategy.
Tip#1 – An Ace in the Hole
The #1 rule of heads up poker play is that when you have an ace as a hole card you will usually be in a dominant position pre flop. You should then raise/re-raise strong to see what the opponent’s reaction will be. Often times an opponent will fold (depending on the specific style of the poker player) for fear of the ace or a pocket pair. Sometimes you may get called but remember, in heads up poker players have a tendency to make loose calls. Odds are you will still be in a dominant position.
Tip #2 – Lower Your Expectations
While playing heads up Texas Hold’em poker, chances are that you cannot afford to wait on a good hand. A quality hand in heads up poker is not the same as when playing with a bigger group. You may have to settle with J-6 offsuit and just see what happens. The odds are that many times your opponent will have a bad looking hand as well.
Tip #3 – Try To Pick Up A Betting Pattern
Many poker players have an extremely difficult time playing heads up. Some collapse under the pressure and others become painstakingly obvious in how they bet in heads up. Make sure you keep an eye on your opponents betting habits. Every now and then you may want to call a hand that you know your probably beat in just to see what the opponent has. If you can pick up an opponents betting habits it’s almost as if they are showing you their hands.
Tip #4 – Mix Up Your Play
Even if you are not getting the best of cards you must always try to mix up your play to throw your opponent off your scent. Raise with 9-4 suited. Call with A-3 offsuit. This way your opponent cannot pick up a good betting pattern from you. Many poker players are not great when it comes to heads up play. By throwing your opponent off your scent it possible that he/she will be enticed into making a careless all-in call. All it takes is one big mistake in heads up play and you’ll have your opponent right where you want them.
Tip #5 – Don’t Over Do the “All-In” Call
Please do not go over board going all-in. This is like leaving your hand up to fate. There is some luck involved in poker but you don’t want to just get by on being lucky. Besides, doing this is a clear give away that you may be less advanced and a veteran will wait for their chance and BURRY you. Mix up your play, raises, calls and folds, and in the end the better player usually wins out.

Texas Hold’em
Texas Hold’em has become the most popular variation of Poker currently being featured in the gaming world. Due to the popularity of Poker parties, the World Series of Poker and the World Poker Tour, more and more people are developing an interest in Poker. Further, the game of Texas Hold’em is of particular interest to gamblers.
Texas Hold’em is usually played with several people (usually more than 2 and less than 22). The game begins with the dealer doling out two cards face down, to each player. These are the cards that are shown and are the cards referred to as the “showdown.” Then, each player makes a bet, after which the dealer deals a “burn card.” The players are then dealt three community cards, face up, and then the second betting round begins. After this second better round, another burn card is dealt and then another community card. Finally, another betting round is held. This is followed by one or two more betting rounds and then the showdown.
The showdown is the official name for the final hand. When a player makes their bet and all of the other players in the game fold, then that player is the game winner and is awarded the money in the pot. If two players, or more, remain, then that is the showdown round. Each player must play the best hand of five cards that he can get from the seven cards (the two hole cards and five community cards). If the best hand is shared by the two players, then the pot is split between the remaining players.

Caribbean Stud Poker
Caribbean Stud Poker is variation on the standard five-card poker that can be found both in brick and mortar casinos and online. Here is a brief rundown on how the game is played. Each player starts by making a wager with the option to make an additional wager on the progressive side.
In Caribbean Stud Poker the player can make a side bet of $1 that pays out for hands of a flush or better. Payoff tables vary but always feature a progressive jackpot that pays the whole jackpot for a royal flush and 10% for a straight flush. If two players had a royal flush in the same hand the player closest to the dealer's right wins the jackpot and the second wins whatever the jackpot is dropped to. In most casinos, the second jackpot is $10,000. This is done because the order of play is from the dealer’s right to left. If two players score a straight flush, the player to the dealer's right gets 10% of the jackpot and the other player gets 10% of what is left over.
While it may seem like a good investment to lay down one dollar in the chance of winning over ten thousand the chances are stacked very high that you will never see your dollar again.
Players are then dealt five cards each, as is the dealer. All cards are dealt face down with the exception of one of the dealer's cards that is dealt face up.
After checking their cards players must decide to raise or fold as usual for poker games. Players that fold forfeit their cards and all wager placed on the game. To raise a player must wager twice the game ante.
The dealer turns over his remaining cards and compares them with the players. Card ranks are the same as regular poker with the additional condition of the dealer 'qualifying'. This is where the Caribbean poker comes into it’s own.
The dealer must be showing an at least an ace and a king or higher to qualify. If the dealer does not qualify the player wins even money on his ante wager and the raise is pushed. On the other hand if the dealer qualifies he beats the player and both the ante and the raise go to the house. If however the dealer qualifies but still loses to the player, then the ante pays even money and the raise pays according to the house pay table. Pay tables can vary to be sure to check it before you play.
If the player and dealer tie then both the ante and raise are pushed. The progressive side bet is paid out based on the value of the players hand. The pay out tables for the progressive bet can also vary.
Caribbean Stud strategy is complicated and only the most skilled players can apply one. As a general rule though you should always raise if you have a pair or higher and always fold if you have less than required qualifying hand for the dealer.

Poker Strategy - The Secret To Success
Poker is a game of chance. It combines strategy with luck. Knowing how to play basic poker is not enough when your goal is to win. Online poker has a unique setup. Opportunities of Internet access to online poker games are available. When you get the poker itch, you no longer have to jump in the car and head to the nearest gambling room. Card games with friends can be reserved for on-line battles with people you don’t know. Your friendships can now stay honest. Even better, gone are smoke filled rooms, drunk buddies that pass out on the couch, and you have a way to keep snacks for yourself. Just plop yourself in front of your computer, turn it on, and let the games begin. In order to start, you’ll of course need internet access. Type in “online poker” and pick out a site. Research the site, register with the site, and you are now ready for action. Now is your chance to enjoy online poker - even in your underwear!
Just a quick overview: Poker is a game that requires a standard deck of cards. Cards consist of four suits: diamonds, spades, clubs, and hearts. Cards are ranked from high to low. Combination hand ranks determine who has the winning hand. The internet is a useful tool that can be used to research which hand ranks are the best. Memorize the best hand ranks and learn to recover from hands dealt that don’t seem to have a chance. The ultimate goal is to win the pot. At the click of the mouse, the help button can be your best friend when you need specifics on rules for any games that are offered.
Strategy tips from Toby Bochan’s Guide to Poker combined with helpful hints researched from various wagering sites will be discussed. These tips can help you form your own strategy for success. They are as follows:
1. Follow the old saying “choose your battles wisely”. The more hands you play does not mean you will make more money.
2. In any site, help guides should be available to discuss rules. Types of games offered and how to play them should be available. Pick the right game for your skill level and bankroll. As a serious online poker player, games require you to put in real money. The key here is: Don’t get in over your head! Remember you are playing with opponents coming from various skill levels. Don’t be the little fishy in a shark’s tank.
3. Bluffing is a common strategic move used in poker. Many do not know how to bluff. Don’t be one of those people. Bluffing is a form of intimidation. By wagering a large amount of money, you attempt to convince opponents into folding. When you are wagering a large sum of cash you are trying to show that you hold the superior hand - even if you don’t. When you are in a card room facing live people, you can judge a bluff by observing body movements and noises. After playing the game a few times you can pick up the habits of the players in front of you. In an online card-room, such observations are impossible and your judgment is impaired. Long story short: Unless you can guarantee 100% your bluff is going to work, it is better not to bluff than to bluff.
4. Online card rooms do not allow you to face other players but you can see what cards are being dealt. Pay close attention. Learn to pick out golden opportunities like flush and straight opportunities. This is where the research of combinations of hand ranks comes in.
5. Since you physically can’t move your cards, be aware of the button options your PC screen gives you to make the moves necessary to play the game effectively. Study your screen carefully. Don’t make hasty moves. Use the time allotted to you wisely. If you strike the wrong key, it can cost you the game.
6. It is not recommended to play poker under the influence of alcohol. Alcohol impairs the mind. Strategies can be harder to carry out. Online poker uses real money. Unless you are playing for low stakes, getting plastered and playing poker are three Ps that do not mix.
7. Like anything else in life, online software can come with its fair share of glitches. Internet connection delays can be detrimental when it happens in the middle of a game. When you are frozen out, your opponents are not. By the time you are back on track the game is over. Your chance of winning that game is gone. Most time the glitches are a factor of PC viruses. Make sure to protect yourself with anti-virus programs and anti-spy ware.
8. Online poker is designed for you, the player, to compete for money and have fun. Any strategy that you choose can be accommodated to your skill level. No matter what strategy you choose, play a fair game. Cheating is a bad habit and a sign of a sore loser.
Overall, as long as you have Poker basics and some strategic ideas under your belt, you have the chance to make any game a fun and entertaining experience. You stand to lose or win some money, so use common sense and go into a game with a strategic frame of mind. You have help guides, the beauty of internet search engines and rules to help you find the right game to suit you. Just use that mouse! Last but not least, if you do decide to play your fave online game of poker in your underwear, remember to close the curtains.

Why is Poker Emotional?
Poker is played at casinos in an atmosphere of prestige and excitement. But the professional poker player must not be affected by those elements or his concentration may be compromised, and at the poker table, you better not be compromised.
Poker is one of the most interesting and intense casino games, because of the human factor. The element that makes poker a "people game" is the emotional factor which is in the gaming lingo also known as the "poker face".
The "poker face" term is used in many other areas of life, but its origin is from the poker table, where players do their best not to reveal the quality of their hands. The strength of one's hand can be revealed by its emotions which are displayed by allegedly simple physical reactions such as: facial expression, rapid hands movement and perspiring.
Naturally, people have different reactions to similar situations, but the mood needed to be determined at a poker table is extremely basic: does the player have a strong hand or not. One can check such definations and scenarios at an online gambling portal or through one of the books that have been written on the subject, but when a person knows the answer to that, he is definitely on the right track.
What we have established so far is that the first emotional capability is to hide your real emotions at the table. Now we get to the second emotional capability which is emotional sensitivity. It is not enough to be able to hide your own emotion, it is also necessary to learn how to read your opponent's emotions as well.
There is no such thing as a strong hand or a week hand, but a relatively strong and relatively week. The history of professional poker showed that in some cases you can win the game with a pair, as long as your opponents believe you have a strong hand. The game is not determined by your hand but by what the other player think of it.
I do not think anyone can be a good poker player because it is very emotionally demanding and requires a basic quality that either you have it or not. But even this quality need to be developed and stretched far as possible. The key to improving your emotional skills is, like everything else, hidden in practice and lots of it.
Nobody is born a good poker player, but a person can certainly become one, after a great deal of practice. But how to know when have done enough? That is easy-you can never practice enough.
